The Enterprise encounters a federation shuttlecraft wheeling through space. Its lone occupant is an unconscious double of Picard. The shuttle's on-board clock shows it to be 6 hours ahead of current Enterprise time. Picard then faces terrible self doubts and fears that he is about to make a decision that will leave him and his crew in a never-ending cycle of torment.
