Aboard the Enterprise, Kirk (William Shatner) is being pressured to abandon the search, to deliver urgently needed medical supplies...

Intelligence report

Spock in his first command.

Unfortunately the hokey 60s sensibilities undermine some of this story (neanderthal giants?), which would otherwise have been a fascinating examination of logic versus emotionalism; it is reduced to a merely interesting one. Kirk's half of the story is much more diverting: rules versus responsibility. Still, the interpersonal relationships are what make Star trek interesting and this is full of those. Watchable.

This is the first use of the urgently-needed-medical-supplies-diversion tactic.
