Inspired by the desire to improve his personality, the Doctor (Robert Picardo) studies some of the great figures from history and tries to incorporate many of their character traits into his subroutines. Despite his noble ideals, the plan is jeopardised by the unintentional inclusion of all of their strongly suppressed dark sides and an evil monster emerges.

Er, the Hype.

It's a bit of a worry when a plot exists solely because of some fancy shmancy technobabble, but this episode is entertaining enough. I found the race of Travellers to be a bit of an after-thought, they are only there to support the Doctor's crisis and to give a subtle hint about the future.

Kes is beginning to get itchy feet, as you would expect in a being that only lives for 9 years (those in the care of the Caretaker's partner notwithstanding). She and Neelix have ended their relationship (off-screen), and despite her attachment to the crew, there is really so much more that she can do. Of course, she decides to stay with Voyager, but maybe at a later Stardate she might change her mind (it's great being nonlinear).
